Windows Ninja – Part 2

So while I’ve been busy setting up domains and hosting for Windows Ninja, I thought about some of the things I could do to get people to read it. So I created a Twitter page (@windowsninja), that was easy enough. Creating a Facebook page for a community/blog? I’m pretty sure a frontal lobotomy is easier. I didn’t realise Facebook could make it so complicated, or restrict some of the things you can do on Facebook if you want a page for your blog. I think I’ve had to recreate the page at least 3 times, because it keeps wanting to integrate with my personal Facebook account.

NO FACEBOOK! I DONT WANT THAT. LET ME MANAGE IT ON A DIFFERENT LOGIN! The whole “use this page as” under the account settings is bullshit. If they were merged together, my windowsninja facebook and personal, if I wrote a post on Windows Ninja, it would post it across to Facebook under my personal account. Give me a break!

I’ve had to essentially set up a Facebook account with different email addresses in a different browser just to do it. It’s almost tempting to use a second Windows install in a partition just to get away from it conflicting.

I will progress!

Windows Ninja

I spent last night, and a few hours this morning pissing about with a wordpress.com hosted blog for something I wanted to start up.  This was due for 2 reasons, I wanted to have a blog where I can put things that I learn, and share with others about Windows Desktop and Server Operating systems. But also because a site I went to regularly, sysadmingeek.com didn’t have some of the stuff I wanted to learn about. But then again, I guess sys admin and network administration are slightly different. So that’s why I ended up with Windows Ninja, I should thank Ben from leetgeek.com.au for the ninja thought. I know they are looking for a Mac Ninja.

I’m finding the wordpress.com hosting irritating though, while there are some added features on wordpress.com. There’s some stuff that limits me as to what I can do, like I do with this blog.

So I think I’ll get some more paid hosting and a domain name, and set it up properly.

An updated theme can be a pain in the arse

I’ve been using the platform theme recently, it felt a little nicer on the eye.

Just did an upgrade and all the colouring has broken, thanks creators of Platform theme! Asshats.

Edit: And fixed.

WordPress updates and WHS

I think everytime I login to the site to work on a post, theres a WordPress update, plugin updates, and by the time I’ve done them I forgot what I came here for.

Currently working on a post for my Windows Home Server setup, this includes an “ikea hack”. Which I’ll post along to ikeahackers.net at some stage and see if it’s worthy.

New to the power of three

Well, my time as Westminster School will come to an end. I’ve taken up a job at an IT company, I felt I needed to move on and do something more challenging and stimulating. I’ll be working at www.lettscom.com.au as a Network Engineer/Computer Technician.

I’m also packing to move house at the moment, I pick up the keys tomorrow after work. Moving into a smaller place, the intention was to save some money but it doesn’t seem like I’ll be doing much of that but maintaining the place and living there will be easier.

The added bonus of starting a new job is the annual leave payout I’ll get, it should clear some debt off that I’ve been chipping away at slowly over the past year.

I’ve also removed the portfolio portion of this site, I’ve registered a new domain name which is where it will move too. I won’t be telling the domain name yet until I’ve got the site going and how I like it!
