Hefeweizen

Hefenwiezer is a german style wheat beer. Brewed by the Burleigh Brewing (www.burleighbrewing.com) Company in Queensland, strange that a company based in Australia is brewing a german style beer, I thought everyone would go for something unique to suit Australia’s climate.

First I took a smell after popping the cap, it reminded me of a beer I had at the Belgian Beer Cafe, Hoegaarden. This had a weaker smell, but a different taste. It was somewhat reminiscent of rock melon. I didn’t mind that taste, or the smell. But Hefeweizen was a lot stronger with a sour note to it, there was a lot of sediment at the bottom. Being from SA, I know to roll a beer with sediment before I drink it, and those who don’t in this state should be lined up and shot.

Personally, this beer isn’t to my tastes. I like light clear lagers that are good for summer drinking like Pure Blonde.

If you’re into stouts and strong ales then this one is worth a shot. But it does taste a bit like stale limes.

The Journey of the Amber Liquids

After finishing work at Westminster School after 3 years, the I.T. department gave me a pretty good departing gift. 15 boutique beers from around Australia, so I thought, what better way than to kick this off than by doing a review on each of them?

So, I’ll kick it off in the next post.

Little Creatures Pale Ale

After being a regular drinker of Coopers Pale Ale, Pure Blonde and James Boags Premium beers. I’ve been a bit unimpressed with anything that has been on the market of late.

So I’ve been clocked up a list of beers I’d like to try.

I recently picked up a 6 pack of Little Creatures Pale Ale from the local tavern recently to try as I’d heard much about it. While I had heard a lot of people had liked this beer, I didn’t think to much of it. It has a very fruity aftertaste, something along the lines of a stoned fruit like Apricots or Nectarines. It has an interesting taste to it and may be something you’d get used to over time. But it’s not something I like that much, it’s a very bitter tasting ale.
